Supracondylar fractures of the humerus (SHF) are seen in more than half of all elbow fractures. SHF can cause vascular and neurological injuries. The main causes of vascular injury are thrombosis with intimal tear, entrapment of the brachial artery at the fracture site, compression of the artery due to deformity/swelling, and partial or complete transection of the artery (by the perforating tip of the fractured bone). Emergency vascular reconstruction is required for functional recovery of the limb.
